DAILY BREAD

Verse Of Today

But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city. – Hebrews 11:16

Inspiration

We who belong to the LORD are content to dwell in an earthly country for a time according to God’s will. But we are ultimately satisfied with the things of the world. We must seek Heavenly things, setting our affections on the things of God. We look for a Heavenly country and that city “not made with hands” but built by God Himself for His people.

Prayer

You, Lord God, have prepared for us a city to dwell in that will not pass away. You will dwell with us as our God, and we as Your people, on the new earth for all eternity. Let us not be consumed and controlled by any earthly hope. Give us perspective on our lives that we might know which things are most important in the light of our future home and of the fact that this world is passing away.

VERSE OF THE DAY

Ezekiel 17 New Living Translation (NLT)

A Story of Two Eagles

17 Then this message came to me from the Lord: “Son of man, give this riddle, and tell this story to the people of Israel. Give them this message from the Sovereign Lord:

“A great eagle with broad wings and long feathers,
    covered with many-colored plumage,
    came to Lebanon.
He seized the top of a cedar tree
and plucked off its highest branch.
He carried it away to a city filled with merchants.
He planted it in a city of traders.
He also took a seedling from the land
and planted it in fertile soil.
He placed it beside a broad river,
where it could grow like a willow tree.
It took root there and
grew into a low, spreading vine.
Its branches turned up toward the eagle,
and its roots grew down into the ground.
It produced strong branches
    and put out shoots.
But then another great eagle came
with broad wings and full plumage.
So the vine now sent its roots and branches
    toward him for water,

You Shall Drink From The Brook: 7 Day Devotional: Strength While Waiting On The Promises Of God

“God is not a man that, He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” – Numbers 23:19 **No Refunds, No Returns** God is so faithful, but He does something that the world doesn’t. God makes us wait. When we are enduring we encounter different emotions like frustration, weariness, anger, and sometimes we just don’t understand what God is doing. In these moments, where our faith is tried, it is important to lift up our eyes to the hill and know where our help comes from. Psalm 121:1-2 says, “I will lift up my eyes to the hills – From whence comes my help? My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth.” In the midst of trials and tribulations, that occur while waiting, we have to stay rooted in the Word Of God. During the time of waiting, trusting in the things of this world is not an option according to Psalm 20:7, “Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; But we will remember the name of the LORD our God.” While waiting on The Lord we pray, we fast, and worship the LORD knowing that He is going to see us through. Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” While waiting, trust in the LORD and know that He will see you through.
